Avengers: CAPTAIN BRITAIN plans revealed by UK star for Marvel Phase 4

There are going to be some huge shoes and boots to fill.

Infinity War ended with a major loss of life including some of the biggest superheroes in the entire Marvel universe.

Even if there is a way to reverse the horrific final act of Avengers 3, it seems impossible that everyone can be brought back.

Now that Wakanda has broken the US stranglehold on saving the day, talk is turning to our own homegrown hero.

WARNING AVENGERS SPOILERS

Captain Britain has grappled with Spider-Man and Captain America in the past and is one of the most powerful Marvel characters.

As always, it all started when a mild mannered human, in this case Essex boy Brian Braddock, is imbued with incredible powers. Fittingly, the honours were done by our own mega-magician Merlin (Merlyn in the comics).

Resplendant in the Union Jack or with a proud lion on his chestpiece, Captain Marvel went on to head up the British superhero team Excalibur. He is also the brother of X-Men heroine Psyloche, aka the equally alliterative Betsy Braddock.

Star Trek writer and star Simon Pegg has his eye on the part, but Kevin Feige revealed that numerous Brit stars have been chasing the plum role.

Pegg said: “I mean, Captain Britain was this Marvel superhero that I loved growing up, ’cause he was the British member of that community.

“I even have a Captain Britain mask when I was a kid, but I fear I would probably be slightly too old now, but if they do… If a Captain Britain movie comes about, they’re gonna need a British cast, so I’ll be waiting.”

Major characters like Captain America, Thor and Iron Man may have survived Infinity War but are widely expected to bow out or even be killed at the end of Avengers 4, leaving huge opportunities to keep diversifying the range of MCU movies.

Marvel has only revealed the next four films to be released, but has announced dates for nine more unnamed projects. 

Black Panther and Guardians of the Galaxy sequels are certainties, but there is plenty of room to continue surprising fans with leftfield choices.

So, what about Captain Britain?

MCU boss Feige said: “We have discussed it. There are a lot of actors that come in and ask about that part, so we’ll have to see.”
