The Source Hotel: Denver's Latest Hotel Celebrates Art and Food
Since its opening in 2013, The Source has become an essential Denver destination for anyone who appreciates art, design and good food and drink. Located in the River North Art District, The Source is an artisanal food market housed within a former 1880’s brick foundry building.
Today it brings together a variety of boutique retailers, as well as culinary innovators that include the celebrated contemporary American restaurant Acorn, Mexican restaurant Comida, Western Daughters Butcher Shoppe, Babettes Artisan Bread, Crooked Stave Artisan Beer Project, Boxcar Coffee and more under one roof.
The team behind Denver’s The Source plans on debuting its adjacent sister property, The Source Hotel in late June/ early July 2018.
Building off the huge popularity of The Source, the hotel is primed to be a unique boutique property that’s part culinary mecca, part art gallery. Similar to The Source, it will incorporate artisanal makers and inventive foodie experiences into its core identity.
“The Source Hotel + Market is an incredible project that will provide unprecedented guest experiences through access to local creatives and makers in Denver’s burgeoning RiNo neighborhood,” states David Stutz, the first General Manager of The Source Hotel in a press release.
In efforts to highlight the best and brightest Denver has to offer, The Source Hotel’s vendors are 100 percent independent. The hotel will open its own market hall, in addition to The Source’s, creating a 45,00 square foot culinary complex.
The hotel will showcase a collection of experiential, craft-focused vendors, three restaurants and a rooftop terrace complete with expansive views of the downtown Denver skyline and Rocky Mountains. Other artisans will include a florist, tattoo shop, and small-scale craft retail counters operated by local designers and artists.
Opening in The Source Hotel’s market hall will be Smök, a barbecue concept; The Woods, the hotel’s rooftop restaurant and bar and New Belgium’s first Denver small-batch brewery, New Belgium Brewery, a 10-barrel system producing a constantly rotating tap list for the rooftop Woods bar and restaurant.
One more exciting edition? Safta, a modern Israeli restaurant helmed by James Beard Award-winning chef Alon Shaya. Meaning “Grandmother” in Hebrew, Safta pays homage to Shaya’s deep cultural roots that inspire his cooking.
“It is Alon’s talent, recognized by two James Beard awards, and his commitment to the community that made him the right fit for this new evolution of the Source complex,” said Kyle Zeppelin of Zeppelin Development, the team that opened The Source. “What he brings to the table is light, bright food, outstanding hospitality, and a progressive culture that aligns with our values.”
Staying true to the arts and culture scene of RiNo Art District, a place that’s home to over 60 galleries, music venues, a dozen breweries, cideries and distilleries and countless art-filled alleyways, The Source Hotel will feature a mural by artist Cleon Peterson and the renowned Station 16 Gallery.
“Opening a new gallery is undoubtedly an exciting endeavor,” said S16 Founder, Carlo De Luca. “Opening a new gallery at The Source Hotel, within the RiNo Art District…that takes it to another level for us.”
This gallery, which will be the only location outside of Montreal, is driven by the core concepts of The Source, along with the region’s passion for making and creativity. It will be open to the public, offering fun events that showcase artwork made by a number of talented local and international urban artists.
“We felt a natural connection to the founding vision of The Source Hotel and to RiNo Art District’s focused arts vision,” continued S16 Co-founders, Adam Vieira and Emily Robertson. “We are thrilled to be part of the community.”
Responsible for the inventive design of The Source Hotel is Stephen Dynia from Dynia Architects. Dynia’s design emphasizes a duality between the former 1880’s warehouse that houses The Source and the new, contemporary hotel property. The hotel will open as the area’s first high rise.
The hotel will feature 100 rooms with elements that include raisable garage doors, floor to ceiling windows, polished concrete floors, Baltic birch casework and warm wood tones. Depending on their preference, guests can choose between mountain or city facing rooms. Guests will also have access to a rooftop pool and hot tub and a fitness center.
Rates start at $249.
