Meghan Markle v Kate Middleton hair and makeup: Brides both opt for natural look

Meghan Markle, 36, wed Prince Harry, 33, at St George’s Chapel in Windsor today.

The bride looked radiant, smiling and waving for crowds as she arrived and again during her carriage procession.

Worldwide excitement for the Royal Wedding is comparable only to the nuptials of Kate Middleton, 36, and Prince William, 35, in 2011.

The Duchess of Cambridge, as she is now known, was widely praised for her hair and makeup looks at the time.

So how do Meghan and Kate’s choices compare?

Hair

Meghan chose a sleek updo with a centre parting. She added a modern twist by tucking her hair behind her ears.

Mathew Soobroy, Principal Stylist at Charles Worthington Salons, said it he thought her style was similar to that of Pippa Middleton, who married last year.

Kate, meanwhile, wore her long brown hair down for her wedding day.

She chose a slight side-parting, with half of her hair swept up and the rest tonged into loose, tumbling curls.

Comparing the two women’s styles, Mathew said: “Kate’s was more loose with her ears covered, while Meghan’s is pulled behind her ears – both beautiful.”

Makeup

Kate was widely praised after she did her own makeup for her 2011 wedding. She chose a simple look, with heavy brows and black eyeliner.

A sweep of blusher and delicate pink lipgloss completed the look.

Meghan, meanwhile, employed Daniel Martin to create her glowing visage. He is a brand ambassador for Dior and regularly works with major celebrities.

Describing her makeup, Caroline Barnes, Max Factor UK Make Up Ambassador, called it “the epitome of modernity”.

She continued: “I can’t really see any foundation, her skin is flawless as in completely flawless.

“She has very fresh skin and bit of balm on her lips, a cream colour on her cheeks and a fresh healthy look, a very soft very no make up.”

How do the other elements of the two Royal Wedding’s compare?

Both Kate and Meghan wore a tiara – although they chose very different styles.

And their bouquests were noted for their similarity, with both women choosing small bouquets.

One place where they went in opposite directions was with the wedding dress.

While Kate chose a heavily detailed lace gown, Meghan chose a simple, elegant design.
