Meghan Markle v Kate Middleton wedding veil: What was different on the day?
Meghan Markle, 36, and Prince Harry, 33, are now husband and wife after a ceremony that took place inside St George’s Chapel earlier today.
The actress looked stunning in a dress, veil and shoes designed by Clare Waight Keller for Givenchy.
Many have also speculated over the tiara Meghan wore, suggesting she was wearing the Queen Mary’s Lozenge Bandeau tiara.
Over her tiara, Meghan wore a five-metre-long veil, which was carried by her page boys into the chapel.
But how did her veil compare to Duchess of Cambridge, Kate Middleton’s, during her wedding back in 2011.
Meghan’s veil
As the actress arrived at the venue, she revealed an extravagant wedding veil, designed by Clare Waight Keller for Givenchy.
Meghan expressed the wish of having all 53 countries of the Commonwealth with her on her journey through the ceremony.
Ms Keller designed a veil representing the distinctive flora of each Commonwealth country united in one spectacular floral composition.
The veil was five metres lng and made from silk tulle with a trim of hand-embroidered flowers in silk threads and organza.
The site stated: “Each flower was worked flat, in three dimensions to create a unique and delicate design. The workers spent hundreds of hours meticulously sewing and washing their hands every thirty minutes to keep the tulle and threads pristine.”
Kate’s veil
The Duchess’ veil was created at the Royal School of Needlework and crafted with hand-embroidered flowers.
Both Kate and Meghan wore their veils over their faces as they arrived to their wedding venues, but the veils were drawn back at different points of the ceremonies.
Royal expert and managing editor of Daily Break previously noted that both Diana and Kate wore veils over their faces as they were walked down the aisle.
But he added: ”I’ll never forget watching Kate’s dad, Michael, lift his daughter’s veil at the altar before giving her hand to Prince William.”
Meghan’s dad, Thomas Markle, wasn’t present on the day, which meant she was walked down the aisle by Prince Charles.
Her veil was then lifted up by Harry before the pair said their vows.
To complete her bridal look Meghan held a beautiful bouquet designed by florist Philippa Craddock.
Alongside the flowers’ sentimental values, Prince Harry handpicked blooms from their private garden at Kensington Palace to add to the bouquet.
But how did Meghan’s bouquet compare to the one Kate had during her wedding in 2011?
