Orlando Bloom to play Captain Britain with UK Avengers Excalibur in MCU?

He’s one of Marvel’s lesser known superheroes, but would certainly appeal to us Brits.

Captain Britain was created in 1976 exactly for that reason.

Known as Brian Braddock, the British superhero is given powers by Merlin and his daughter Roma before leading the UK’s version of the Avengers, Excalibur.

Now Orlando Bloom has thrown his hat in the ring to take on Captain Britain for himself in the MCU.

Speaking on BBC Radio 2, the Pirates of the Caribbean star said: “All the Marvel movies are just phenomenal

“You know, I really think it’s about timing, I’ve not [been asked] but I’ve met [with people] over there, but it’s sort of one of those things where I took a lot of time out to raise my son, and after being in a big franchise [Pirates Of The Caribbean] it was more about wanting to be there for him.

“I figured when he turns around to me when he’s 10 and he’s like, ‘Where were you?’ [I didn’t want that to happen].’

“I do read [Marvel comics] a little bit. Who’s the British one? Captain Britain! There you go.”

Bloom continued: “Terrible costume though, and also you’ve got Captain America so what you going to do? Captain Britain vs. Captain America?’

Another actor interested in the role is Star Trek’s Simon Pegg, who said to JoBlo: “I mean, Captain Britain was this Marvel superhero that I loved growing up, ’cause he was the British member of that community.

“I even have a Captain Britain mask when I was a kid, but I fear I would probably be slightly too old now, but if they do… If a Captain Britain movie comes about, they’re gonna need a British cast, so I’ll be waiting.”

Marvel boss Kevin Feige has even teased that Captain Britain has been discussed, although lots of actors are interested in playing the British superhero.

Speaking to HeyUGuys, he said: “We have discussed it. There are a lot of actors that come in and ask about that part, so we’ll have to see.”
