Solo: A Star Wars Story after credits: Is there a post-credits scene?
Solo: A Star Wars Story is the latest addition to the Star Wars franchise, telling the origin story of the galaxy’s favourite smuggler, Han Solo.
Meeting his good friend Chewbacca, Solo begins his journey as the greatest smuggler, forging friends with some of the franchise’s most beloved characters.
The future of the Star Wars saga is left wide open for more Solo adventures, as Disney continues to make more spin-off movies.
Movie-goers are well used to having future films teased in post-credits scenes so does Solo: A Star Wars Story have any?
Major plot spoilers ahead.
Is there a post-credits scene in Solo: A Star Wars Story?
Han Solo (Alden Ehrenreich) is back in his own adventure, making his mark as the galaxy’s greatest smuggler.
This is the second Disney spin-off story from the original Star Wars saga after Star Wars: Rogue One.
Giving fans a peak into Solo’s origins, Solo: A Star Wars Story introduces the beginnings of some of the most iconic characters in the series, including Chewbacca and Lando Calrissian (Donald Glover).
In recent years, fans have come to expect a few post-credits scenes to tease what is to come in the future.
Disney’s other massive franchise, Marvel, is notorious for including several post-credits scenes to whet the appetite for the next episode.
Most recently, 20th Century Fox’s Deadpool 2 featured no less than five post-credits scenes, as a parody on the trope.
Disney has decided to opt-out of this trend however with Solo.
There is NO post-credits scene in Solo: A Star Wars Story, but the film does end on somewhat of an open page, leaving the door open for further adventures with Han Solo.
That doesn’t mean that fans who stick around for the credits will not be rewarded for their patience. A touching dedication to the memory of Allison Shearmur, a producer on Solo, Rogue One, The Hunger Games and several other films, is shown during the credits.
Shearer died on January 19, 2018, and was a key figure during development.
The other reason is the music. Solo’s main score is composed by John Powell who, like Michael Giacchino on Rogue One before him, develops John Williams’ iconic score to something new for the spin-off films.
There has never been a post-credits scene after a Star Wars movie, with the trend not really coming into fashion until 2010.
The future of Solo’s story is firmly in Star Wars fans’ minds, but there is still a lot to explore in his arc.
Several surprise cameos make an appearance towards the end of the movie, hinting at possible adventures for Solo and his friends in future spin-off films.
Fans are also expecting to see the events leading up to Star Wars: A New Hope, where Han Solo is on the run from the intergalactic gangster Jabba The Hut, when he meets a young ed apprentice called Luke Skywalker.
The next Star Wars film to be released is the ninth episode in the original Star Wars saga, set to be released December 20, 2019.
Until then, fans will have t speculate on what is next for Solo, Chewbacca and the galaxy far, far away.
Solo: A Star Wars Story is in cinemas now.
