Avengers 4: Iron Man and Captain America for HEARTBREAKING ‘sacrifice’ after Infinity War?

A user on Reddit has laid the blueprint for a potentially heartbreaking moment between Tony Stark (Robert Downey Jr) and Steve Rogers (Chris Evans) – aka Iron Man and Captain America.

The two have not been on good terms, to say the least, and did not cross paths in Avengers: Infinity War.

But as two of the only survivors of Thanos’s Snap, it seems inevitable that they’ll have to cross paths – even work together – in next year’s as-yet-untitled sequel.

Writing on Reddit, user travisr91 suggested that the end of the film could mirror a famous moment in Iron Man, the very first movie of the MCU – released back in 2008.

“So I’ve been thinking about it and I feel pretty confident that Tony Stark will survive the events of the next film but Steve Rogers is going to sacrifice himself to buy Tony time to do whatever it is he needs to do to beat Thanos,” they wrote.

“It will be exactly like how Yinsen sacrificed himself to buy Tony time in the first Iron Man, bringing the last 10 years full circle.

“I can even see them using the same dialogue. With Tony begging Steve to ‘stick to the plan’ and Steve saying ‘This was always the plan.’

“I mean I think that just writes itself and it’s the obvious move if you’re going to have one of them sacrifice themselves.”

The theory went down well in the comments section, with one person responding: “I really love Captain America’s character so much but killing him in A4 feels like the most righteous decision to cap this saga.”

“I agree. Especially with Captain America repeatedly implying that they don’t trade lives,” another said.

“Also Tony Stark is gonna have a family in this second film. And from a sheer business standpoint Chris Evans is done with the character. RDJ has seemed to be somewhat open to returning occasionally as his character.”

Indeed, Evans has implied on multiple occasions that these movies round-out his contract with Marvel – one he doesn’t plan on renewing.

But whether or not that’s been a bluff, time will tell.

Avengers 4 is out in May 2019.
