Top Gun 2 EXCLUSIVE first pics of Tom Cruise action scene: Guess what he is doing again?
Top Gun was all about jets, bikes, aviators, cocky macho displays and homoerotic beach vollyball.
The long awaited sequel finally started filming earlier today in San Diego.
At least two of those things are already happening on the first official day on set with Tom Cruise.
He literally took our breath away when he made the Kawasaki Ninja GPz900R the most iconic bike in the world and Maverick is back and hasn’t lost his need for speed, it seems.
Filming got underway on May 31 at a local military base and it’s like no time has passed at all.
The 1986 original movie was set at the Marine Corps Air Station Miramar in San Diego and Cruise and long-time collaborator Jerry Bruckheimer have already revealed how the sequel will continue the story.
Cruise said: “Stylistically it’s going to be same. Aviators are back. The need for speed. We’re going to have big, fast machines. It’s going to be a competition film, like the first one… but a progression for Maverick.”
He didn’t waste any time climbing back onto an impressive motorbike.
Shots from the set also showed a fighter jet.
Director Joseph Kosinski told Coming Soon: “The Navy is very different now than it was in 1986. Back then, they hadn’t been in any war for 15 or 20 years at that point. Now, here in 2017, the Navy’s been at war for 20 years.
“It’s just a different world now, so you can’t remake the first movie. It has to adapt.
“I certainly want to recreate the experience of that movie, which gives you a front-seat into the world of naval aviation and what it’s like to be in a fighter jet.”
Cruise has been constantly on high-powered bikes in movies from the Mission Impossibles to Knight and Day.
It’s been a while since he has been at the controls of a modern military jet.
