Top Gun 2: Will Kelly McGillis return for Top Gun Maverick with Tom Cruise?

For decades fans have been waiting for a Top Gun Sequel.

On May 30, Tom Cruise finally gave them what they wanted, with an official announcement via his twitter.

The Top Gun sequel comes from Paramount and Skydance, with Jerry Bruckheimer producing.

Top Gun Maverick’s screenplay is co-written by Peter Craig and Justin Marks.

Besides these, few cast details have been confirmed.

Will Kelly McGillis return for Top Gun Maverick with Tom Cruise?

No one is quite sure if the actress will return to the Top Gun set to reprise her role as Charlie.

Charlotte “Charlie” Blackwood was an astrophysicist and civilian Top Gun instructor.

She was also Tom Cruise’s love interest.

However, in an interview with The Independent in 2014, McGillis said she would happily cameo in a Top Gun sequel.

The jury is still out on whether, four years later, McGillis still feels the same.

Top Gun: Maverick will pick up in the present day.

Cruise gave little away about the sequel, only telling fans: “Stylistically it’s going to be same.

“Aviators are back. The need for speed. We’re going to have big, fast machines.”

Though it doesn’t seem the movie will stray too far from its roots.

Cruise added: “It’s going to be a competition film, like the first one… but a progression for Maverick.”

McGillis came out as a lesbian in 2009, though she is no longer with her partner from the time.

She stepped back from Hollywood though recently has returned to film and TV.

McGillis recently filmed as the lead in Mother of All Secrets in early 2017 in Bermuda and is working on a new web series, Stages.
