Wonder Woman 2 period photos: Will Wonder Woman 2 be set in the 1980s?

Acclaimed director Patty Jenkins is returning to the helm with Wonder Woman 2.

Israeli star Gal Gadot will also be reprising the title role of Diana Prince/Wonder Woman.

Jenkins’ return to the as-yet-untitled movie makes her the highest-paid female director ever.

And she also posted the Wonder Woman 2 image on her own social media accounts.

Will Wonder Woman 2 be set in the 1980s?

Fans seem to think so, given the image shared by the DC boss and Jenkins.

Early rumours also indicated Wonder Woman might find herself in the Cold War era.

Details about Wonder Woman 2 being set in the 1980s were confirmed at this year’s CinemaCon.

Diana first appeared as the superhero Wonder Woman during World War I.

She joined Chris Pine’s Steve Trevor to fight on behalf of the allies, and Gadot’s chemistry with Pine was praised as one of the highlights of the first Wonder Woman movie.

Fans will remember Trevor’s sacrifice leading Diana to be able to defeat villain Ares.

Despite this sacrifice, Pine is set to return to the sequel.

Resurrecting Trevor might be a bit of a stretch, but some fans suspect he’ll play a descendant of the World War I vet.

The Cold War setting places Diana far enough from the events of World War I that the character would have evolved considerably.

It also gives her enough time to further develop before meeting Batman and Superman in the present day.

The Cold War setting for Wonder Woman 2 adds an element of espionage and spy-thriller to the blockbuster franchise.

Wonder Woman 2 is set for a USA release on November 1, 2019.
