Fernando Franco, who runs Italian eatery, Di Frabo, said he was concerned and disappointed after finding the vile racist note.

The restaurant owner, originally from Mexico City, claims it was the first time he felt unwelcome in the country after finding the message on Friday.

Scribbled at the bottom of the receipt, a customer wrote: “The food was tasty and the service was attentive. However, the owner is Mexican. We will not return. America first.”

The food business is situated in one of the wealthiest neighbourhoods in San Antonio, Texas.

Having worked in the US since 2012, Mr Franco told News 4 it was a “slap in the face”.

Although he doesn’t know who left the horrible note, he believes it is a by-product of ’s recent election campaign.

The President was lauded by voters for his tough stance against Mexico – insisting he would build a wall between the neighbouring country.

Despite being upset by what he read on the receipt, Mr Franco said he was focused more than ever on keeping moving forward.

“We’re just going to keep working and I think most of the people are not like this,” he said.

Since the incident on Friday lunchtime, a copy of the note has been shared on social media thousands of times.

Mr Franco said the racial slur had led to an out pouring of support from people shocked by the inscription.

He now hopes he will be able to apply for citizenship having worked under an E-2 visa for four years – which requires renewal every 12 months.

“That’s what we’re doing we’re living the dream,” he said.
