What happened to Sarah Ferguson's tiara? £220k gift from Queen not seen for 17 years

Sarah Ferguson, the Duchess of York, is the former wife of the Queen’s second-youngest son Prince Andrew.

The pair have two daughters, Princess Beatrice, 29, and Princess Eugenie.

The redhead married the Andrew is a ceremony at Westminster Abbey.

And the Duchess was given a very special present from the Queen to make her a royal bride.

While Princess Diana wore her family tiara for her weddinf, Fergie didn’t have a family tiara.

So, the Queen had a diamond tiara designed and made for her, the York tiara. 

The tiara, from Garrad, the same designer who created Sarah Ferguson’s engagement ring, was part of a demi-parure. 

A demi-parure is a set of jewellery with typically three pieces, and this one had a necklace, earrings, and a bracelet.

A gemologist told Express.co.uk: “This picture-perfect classic is made entirely out of diamonds set in platinum with floral scrollwork and a large diamond of around 5 carats sitting on top.

“The value of such a piece is not easy to calculate without knowing details about the diamond sizes, qualities, and also the weight of the platinum.

“That being said, with the value of a top quality 5 carat stone like this tiara topper combined with the platinum and other diamonds, the value of this tiara would easily be more than $300,000 USD today.”

However, the last time the tiara was seen in public was well over a decade ago at the White Tie and Tiara Ball hosted by Sir Elton John at his Windsor mansion on 5 July, 2001.

It seems a shame for such a tiara to have not had a public outing in years.

So what has happened to the York tiara?

As this is private gift it is likely that Sarah still has the piece.
