On screen, Alex likes to dress smart but off screen he prefers to be casual.

How would you describe your style? On screen, smart in a suit. Off TV, casual in tracksuits – I like to feel comfortable and chilled out.

Which colours suit you best? Pink, pale blue, purple, beige and sandy tones – shades that complement my skin tone. I’m not afraid to experiment.

Working on Dancing On Ice, with all those sequins, makes you brave.

Why the suits, then, for weather presenting?

Good Morning Britain is a smart programme and suits fit the news.

I’ll let you into a secret, though – when you only see me from the waist up, I don’t tuck my shirt in so it doesn’t wrinkle when I’m waving my arms about and if it’s a hot day, and you don’t see me from the waist down, I’ll probably be wearing shorts with my suit jacket.

If I can get away with wearing no trousers, I do.

How did your modelling stint come about?

An Australian company, MJ Bale, approached me to test-drive a lightweight wool suit that keeps you cool in hot conditions – they said they wanted a weatherman and found me on Google. I went to some of the hottest places: Marrakech, Atlas mountains, Sahara desert, Dubai, India, Abu Dhabi, LA and Vegas.

What is your fashion philosophy?

I believe in the saying, “Man makes the clothes, not clothes make the man.”

If you look after your body through exercise and eating right, you don’t need designer clothes.

You’ll look good in a T-shirt from Primark or an off-the-peg suit from Topman.

Alex’s fashion philosophy is – the man makes the clothes, not clothes make the man.

My wardrobe is always fit to bursting and my drawers are rammed, although I’m neat and tidy – I’m a bit OCD in that way

What is your best fashion tip?

If the suit doesn’t fit perfectly, get it altered.

I’ve been going to a tailor for years and often have the jacket taken in slightly, arms shortened and trousers taken in for from the knee down so they fall at the right place on the shoe.

It’s the best way to get a bespoke suit for a fraction of the price.

What is your favourite fashion era?

The here and now because I love seeing what’s on trend.

What is your best fashion secret?

Primark and New Look for shorts.

They do great chinos and denims.

Save your money for the shoes and tops.

Who are your favourite designers?

Paul Smith and Dolce & Gabbana

Do you have a style icon?

David Beckham and Manchester City football manager Pep Guardiola.

Alex wasn’t able to go to the gym while he was doing Dancing on Ice but the regime kept him fit.

How do you like to keep fit?

I’ve trained at the gym three or four times a week since I was 17.

I wasn’t able to get to the gym while I was doing Dancing On Ice, but that regime kept me fit and strong to do all the lifting.

Are you a hoarder or do you clear out your wardrobe each season?

My wardrobe is always fit to bursting and my drawers are rammed, although I’m neat and tidy – I’m a bit OCD in that way.

I do have regular clear-outs but I always have 25 suits at any one time.

I’ve just given five, including some by Paul Smith, to charity.

How many pairs of shoes and trainers do you own?

About 40. I really like Converse and when I buy a new pair, I recycle one of my older pairs.

What is your best fashion tip?

Run a wet wipe over your trainers after you’ve worn them.

It keeps them clean and fresh.

Plus regularly replace the laces.

Converse are one of the items that Alex couldn’t live without.

What is your current favourite outfit?

A Zara or Topman T-shirt and a buff-coloured Judas Sinned fitted tracksuit with tapered joggers.

To be honest, it’s too good for the gym – when I go training I wear a tattered old tracksuit.

Is there an old favourite you turn to in a wardrobe crisis?

A Reiss navy-blue blazer with black skinny jeans or denims and a plain shirt teamed with a pair of white Converse or brogues if I want to look a little smarter.

How much do you spend on clothes each month? On average?

About £200. But more when I’m investing in a new suit.

What is the most expensive item in your wardrobe? And best bargain?

A Paul Smith suit that cost £1,700 and a pair of suede boots from River Island that cost £10.

What is the oldest item in your wardrobe?

A cream Reiss hooded jumper, which looks as good now as when I bought it 10 years ago.

What would you wear to get married?

A statement suit in a great colour.

What is the one item of clothing you couldn’t live without? Can I have two?

Converse and tracksuits.

What is your favourite piece of jewellery?

A Michael Kors watch. But I’m quite minimalistic and not into wearing a lot of jewellery.

Have you ever made a fashion faux pas?

The bright orange suit I wore for Dancing On Ice.

What is the most crushing remark anyone has made about your clothes? Someone tweeted that night, “Dancing On Ice at 6pm, Alex is getting the easyJet flight at 9pm.”

Because I looked like a flight attendant in that suit.

What item of clothing would you save from a burning house? My trainers.

Then I’d run like hell. Alex presents the weather on Good Morning Britain, which is on weekdays at 6am on ITV.
