Drake’s Scorpion pulls in over 1 billion streams in its first week
As expected, Drake’s fifth album Scorpion has pulled in over 1 billion streams globally in its first week, Drake’s label Republic Records confirms to The Verge. The album also broke the US streaming record with 745.92 million streams in its first week, according to Billboard, easily beating Post Malone’s Beerbong & Bentleys, which put up 431 million streams in its first week earlier this year.
Scorpion racked up record breaking totals this week, toppling single-day records on Spotify, Apple Music, and Amazon Music, while bringing in over 300 million streams in its first 24 hours. The album sold 732,000 copies in the US, taking the spot for the largest debut in 2018, and Drake now owns four of the top 10 streaming weeks ever for an album, according to Billboard.
The unprecedented numbers Drake put up with Scorpion — his last project More Life held the record for global streams with around 600 million in its first week — aren’t likely to be beaten any time soon. At least until he decides to release another project.
