Donald Trump UK visit: Calls for Theresa May to make Hugh Grant’s Love Actually speech

The US President touched down last night and has various meetings with Prime Minister May are taking place.

While the Trump Baby Balloon is taking off from Parliament Square this morning, Love Actually is trending on Twitter.

The reason being some Trump critics are calling for May to make a similar speech to that of Grant’s PM in the press conference with Billy Bob Thornton’s president, as an act of defiance.

Fans of the hit Christmas movie will know the grabby fictional US leader tried it on with the PM’s soon-to-be love interest played by Martine McCutcheon.

During the press conference at No 10, the fictional president expresses his delight at the visit.

He says: “Very satisfactory indeed. We got what we came for, and our special relationship is still very special.”

But then Grant’s PM David bravely responds: “I love that word relationship. Covers all manners of sins, doesn’t it? I fear that this has become a bad relationship.

“A relationship based on the President taking exactly what he wants, and casually ignoring all those things that really matter to Britain.”

Grant continued: “We may be a small country, but we’re a great one too.

“Country of Shakespeare, Churchill, The Beatles, Sean Connery, Harry Potter, David Beckham’s right foot, David Beckham’s left foot.

“A friend who bullies us is no longer a friend. And since bullies only respond to strength, from now onward I will be prepared to be much stronger.

“And the President should be prepared for that.”

Of course Grant’s David responded with that memorable dance, while calling a portrait of Thatcher “you saucy minx.”

The UK will have to wait and see what Mrs May has to see to President Trump later on in the visit.
