Mamma Mia: Here We Go Again! returns to the Greek island in 2018, some 10 years later.
On the island of Kalokairi, Sophie (played by Amanda Seyfried) is pregnant with Sky’s (Dominic Cooper) child while running her mother’s villa.
Sophie is worried she can’t handle the pregnancy without her mother around.
However, given the several tracks featuring Meryl Streep singing, it may seem she isn’t dead after all.
Or maybe she is going to appear as a singing ghost alongside her friends and family.
Either way, Sophie has Tanya (Christine Baranski) and Rosie (Julie Walters) to guide her.
With the help of her mother’s friends, Sophie will find out more of Donna’s past, including how she fronted The Dynamos and came to start up her villa on the island.
Mamma Mia 2 will also describe how Donna met each of Sophie’s dads (Pierce Brosnan, Stellan Skarsgård, and Colin Firth) and how she raised her daughter.
Sophie also gets a surprise visit from someone she had not invited or even met before: her grandmother, Ruby Sheridan (Cher).
The Abba-themed sequel star Julie Walters described the sequel as fantastic: “I think it is better than the first one.”
Walters also praised Cher, joining the cast as Streep’s mother and Seyfried’s grandmother, saying: “It was heaven having her there, she’s a really great girl. I’m a massive fan.”
Mamma Mia: Here We Go Again is in UK and USA cinemas on Friday, July 20 2018.
