When we used to think of sequins, it was all about Beyonce, Strictly and fancy dress costumes, but times have changed.

Runway designer Ashish became known for his sequined everything from T-shirts to trousers and pretty soon the highstreet followed.

We knew they were official when brands like J Crew and Boden (known for their classic, preppy style) introduced sequined cardigans amongst their khaki’s and cashmere.

When it comes to looking at which celebrities have worn sequins, it’s more a case of who hasn’t! With everyone from Alesha Dixon, Holly Willoughby to Karlie Kloss, Paloma Faith and and Kylie, the list goes on.

And why wouldn’t they?

They give you an instant glow, inject some much needed fun into the morning commute and can brighten up any outfit, even if it is a tiny sparkle detail on your everyday handbag (a bag charm or brooch is the easiest way to instantly update).

Model wears: Rainbow vest, £78, Wildfox at Selfridges; sequin trousers, £28, Boohoo; sequin sliders, £25, V by Very; tassel earrings, £6, Asos

These sequined trousers from Boohoo may not be for everyday, but make a great show stopper at a festival, or would make a stylish alternative to a gown or for a black tie do.

Either dress them down, Ibiza style with a logo T-shirt like this one from Wildfox or wear with a classic tuxedo jacket to make an entrance, Met Ball style.

All that glitters is…. every colour of the rainbow with this sequin dress from Very. It’s not for the fainthearted, but will certainly get you noticed.

When it comes to accessorizing, take note, this dress will do all the talking, keep it simple with black courts and a small scale clutch.

If you want to try out a little sparkle and not sure where to start, a jacket is definitely the way to go.

Sequin jackets have always been a Christmas party favourite, but this year the hero piece was the gunmetal sequin blazer complete with eighties style shoulder pads.

It’s winning formula? Just throw with jeans and a white tee for instant, easy glamour.

Here we’ve livened up a simple black jumpsuit with this smartie sequin kimono jacket from Very.

Worn with oversized earrings and flat sandals, this is a great easy holiday look.

This bralet from Boohoo is perfect for that totally tropical party vibe.

For a beach to beach-bar look, throw over a wraparound skirt like this handkerchief hem style from Topshop.

They will give a simple outfit nighttime status so always pack one in your case for holiday nights out.
