Avengers 4: Only THIS can kill Thanos and beat the Infinity Gauntlet? WHO will use it?

It’s becoming increasingly clear that the Snap could have been stopped. Thanos could have been stopped. Killed, in fact.

When Thor flew down from the sky with Stormbeaker spitting lightning, he actually could have ended everything right there.

With Infinity War out on digital, download, DVD and Blu-ray in the US, closer examination of the final scenes is throwing up some tantalising facts about Avengers 3, but also major clues for Avengers 4.

Did you spot these two game-changing things Stormbeaker did in the final battle?

Redditor awildwaggs asked: “Compared to Mjolnir it seems in whole other league. Mjolnir was broken by Hela with relative ease, but then we see that Stormbreaker can summon the Bifrost.”

We had only seen Heimdall control the Bifrost before, and even then with a fixed machine, not just by swinging an axe.

awildwaggs added: “Stormbreaker was able to withstand the full force and power of the fully powered infinity gauntlet. We saw Thanos just decimate all the other avengers using just one stone at a time. So did the writers just create a weapon more powerful than the Infinity Gauntlet? Or does it have to do with Thor being as powerful as he is now?”

Another fan, Nerrolken, answered: “‘Powerful’ isn’t a single, linear scale. Stormbreaker can clearly resist the power of the Gauntlet, but is that from sheer force or designed immunity? My guess is the latter: Eitri designed the Gauntlet after all, so he’d be uniquely well-suited to design a counter to it.”

What does seem increasingly clear is that Stormbreaker can actually withstand the full power of the Infinity Gauntlet. This would be crucial to even getting close to Thanos again.

It is also an immensely powerful weapon in its own right. All the previous attacks on Thanos from Hulk to Tony Stark’s strongest tech tricks barely grazed the Mad Titan, but Stormbreaker inflicted a major wound.

Another fan added: “I don’t thinkSstormbreaker is as/more powerful than the Infinity Gauntlet butt I think it has something special to it that lets it resist the full power of the Gauntlet. After all, it is the ‘Thanos killing weapon.’”

Eitri made it specifically to kill Thanos, after all. But who can use it?

This is where it gets really interesting since the filmmakers recently confirmed that Stormbreaker is not like Mjolnir. You do not need to be ‘worthy’ to wield it.

Teenage Groot already lifted the blade, so potentially anyone strong enough, like Hulk, Captain America or even Tony Stark in his Iron Man suit, could be the one to deliver the killing blow.
