A Star Is Born at Vue Cinemas: Here’s why Lady Gaga movie is NOT showing at major chain
Vue Cinemas, which has 89 sites throughout the UK and Ireland, is not currently screening the highly acclaimed drama, which stars Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper.
The movie came out on general release one week ago but has yet to get an outing on Vue’s 854 screens.
A message on their website reads: “We are working very hard to try and bring you A Star Is Born.
“We are still in discussions with the studio and apologise to all of our customers who were looking forward to seeing the film at Vue.
“Keep an eye out for further updates.”
The film actually had its premiere at the Vue in London’s Leicester Square, making its absence from regional branches all the more intriguing.
The same message is being sent to members of the public on Twitter who are enquiring over its absence.
It’s not clear how badly the situation will have affected A Star Is Born’s box office performance, but it’s worth pointing out that it finished only a hairline behind Johnny English Strikes Again over the weekend.
Although the latter had a clear win on the Friday-Sunday window, with previews since last Wednesday factored in, A Star Is Born finished only £100,000 behind it (and both were comfortably beaten by Venom).
The movie is, however, still showing without incident at other cinema chains – including Odeon, Cineworld and more.
After strong reviews from the public, A Star Is Born is currently on the receiving end of some enthusiastic Oscars buzz.
Writer-director-actor Bradley Cooper could be up for many different prizes, while Gaga is being fancied for both Original Song and Actress.
Her competition in the latter field includes current bookies’ favourite Glenn Close, plus Melissa McCarthy, Viola Davis and Olivia Colman.
The movie’s official soundtrack album has done big business too: it is number two on the midweek charts, announced Monday, behind only Twenty One Pilots.
It continues a year in which the public have seemingly had a big appetite for music from the movies: The Greatest Showman has been on the chart for 40 weeks, and Mamma Mia: Here We Go Again! spent several weeks at number one over the summer.
A Star Is Born is out now.
