Ant-Man and the Wasp director was NOT a fan of his first film villain Yellowjacket
Back in 2015 Corey Stoll took on the role of Darren Cross in Ant-Man, who was mentored by Hank Pym and took over his company.
The scientist ended up using the shrinking technology to develop the Yellowjacket suit for militaristic purposes.
Since the film’s release Marvel fans have criticised Cross for being part of the MCU villain problem, in that he’s just another bad version of the superhero he’s facing.
And now Ant-Man and the Wasp director Reed, who also helmed Ant-Man, has admitted he wasn’t happy with the baddie.
Speaking with io9, he said: “The villain in that movie felt like a bit of a vestige from the era in which that project was started, [which was] around the time of Iron Man one, where you have an antagonist who has a similar power set [as the hero].
“I was hell bent on doing something different.”
Reed is of course referring to Jeff Bridges’ Obadiah Stane aka Iron Monger from the first Iron Man movie – another scientist with a similar suit to the titular superhero.
Of course this isn’t the only example of alter-ego in MCU movies.
There was also Abomination in The Incredible Hulk, Kaecilius in Doctor Strange and Erik Killmonger in Black Panther.
Meanwhile Marvel boss Kevin Feige has revealed that Ant-Man and the Wasp star Michelle Pfeiffer did in fact appear in the first Ant-Man movie.
Remember when Scott Lang went subatomic like she had? As suspected by eagle-eyed fans who went frame-by-frame of that scene, the original Wasp did encounter him.
According to Screen Rant, the producer confirmed this theory at the Ant-Man and the Wasp press conference.
He said: “In the first film it was, we got a glimpse of it for people who like to go through frame-by-frame, there was a little silhouette of Janet as the Wasp in there, which is a big story element in this movie.”
According to Hank Pym the Quantum Realm is “where all concepts of time and space become irrelevant.”
No doubt this dimension, also seen in Doctor Strange, will play a crucial role in Avengers 4.
Ant-Man and the Wasp is released in Uk cinemas on August 3, 2019.
