Ant-Man and the Wasp release date UK: When is Ant-Man sequel out in cinemas in the UK?

Fans of the Paul Rudd movie will have to wait a little while longer for the sequel to return to cinemas.

Ant-Man and The Wasp is out in UK cinemas on Monday, 6 August 2018, and fans in the UK are not happy about it.

In the USA, the sequel arrives in cinemas on Friday, 6 July 2018.

Fans in the UK have launched an online petition to get Marvel to move the release date up to be in line with the USA’s release date.

“How can we go a month without spoilers?” the petition states.

Why is Ant-Man and The Wasp out at UK cinemas a month later than the USA?

In short: Football.

Film distributors are afraid The FIFA World Cup live final on 15 July will conflict with a 6 July Ant-Man and The Wasp release date.

The petition adds: “You can watch the World Cup and watch a movie as well.”

Italy (14 August) and Japan (31 August) have even later dates than the UK for Ant-Man and The Wasp, but fans in the UK are still unhappy.

Other reasons the sequel’s release date in the UK is belated are the 13 July debut of Pixar’s Incredibles 2, and the release of Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom.

The latter was out in UK cinemas on 22 June, which gives Ant-Man and The Wasp enough breathing room to not compete with the Universal blockbuster.

However, these reasons are not doing much to calm Ant-Man and The Wasp fans.

Some cite Marvel’s decision to up the release date of Avengers: Infinity War as precedent.

This move helped contain spoilers and lead to the biggest global opening of all time.
