Aquaman 2: Will there be a sequel to Aquaman?

Warner Bros is hoping for a winner with their underwater adventure Aquaman.

The studio’s adaptations of DC Comics movies have all but been flops.

Patty Jenkins’ Wonder Woman is one of the only hugely successful DC Extended Universe films to come from the studio.

With Aquaman, WB is hoping for a bit of that same magic – and the franchise are already hoping it’ll be such a success that a seque wil need to be on the cards.

Will there be an Aquaman 2?

If both the star and director of the first Aquaman have their way, yes.

With two months left before Aquaman hits UK theatres on December 14, there is plenty of time to speculate about sequels.

But two recent interviews from director James Wan and star Jason Momoa imply fans could be hopeful.

Speaking to TotalFilm Magazine, Wan said: “There’s definitely stories, even within the world we’ve created, that you can actually see other storylines as well.

“There’s the Aquaman story, but then there are the stories of the seven different kingdoms as well.

“I think those would be very fun to explore.”

Momoa confided to TotalFilm he has already pitched an idea for Aquaman 2.

“Even when we were shooting Aquaman, I have the opening of Aquaman 2 ready,” Momoa said.

“I went in and pitched it to producer Peter Safran, and I pitched it to Warner Bros. chairman Toby Emmerich.

“They loved it. It’s awesome…But yeah, I have plans for Aquaman 2.”

Of course, any plans ride on the success of the first Aquaman movie.

Wan is known for his work as an action director, having worked on Fast and Furious 7.

Speaking to Comicbook.com about his work on Aquaman, he said: “It was very important for me to be able to bring my own stamp, my own visual aesthetic, create the characters.

“Even though Jason has somewhat been established Justice League, I wanted to bring his character into this, basically, fresh in a lot of ways.”

Warner Bros shows no signs of slowing down with its DC adaptations.

Upcoming DC Extended Universe movies include Shazam, Birds of Prey (featuring Margot Robbie as Harley Quinn), Wonder Woman 1984, and more.

Aquaman is out in UK cinemas on December 14, 2018.
