Ariana Grande CONFIRMS Manchester benefit concert: Coldplay, Katy Perry, more join line-up
The gig – which comes after last week’s atrocious terror attack at Grande’s Manchester Arena show – will take place this Sunday, June 4, as rumoured yesterday.
It will be held at the Old Trafford cricket ground and proceeds will go to the We Love Manchester emergency fund, which was set up by the Manchester City Council in partnership with the British Red Cross, in aid of grieving families and victims.
Justin Bieber, Coldplay, Katy Perry, Miley Cyrus, Pharrell Williams, Usher, Take That, Niall Horan, and others join Grande on the impressive bill.
The Sun reports that Madonna is also in talks to join, although she has yet to be officially confirmed.
Fans who were at the fateful gig last Monday will be offered free tickets, and will need to register interest on Ticketmaster before 4pm tomorrow, May 31.
Others can book their spot from 10am on Thursday, June 1.
The event will be shown on BBC television, and aired on the radio via the BBC and the Capital group.
Ariana herself had announced in a statement last week: “My heart, prayers and condolences are with the victims of the Manchester Attack and their loved ones. There is nothing I or anyone can do to take away the pain you are feeling or to make this better.
“However, I extend my hand and heart and everything I possibly can give to you and yours, should you want or need my help in any way.”
She continued: “We will not quit or operate in fear. We won’t let this divide us. We won’t let hate win…
“Our response to this violence must be to come closer together, to help each other, to love more, to sing louder and to live more kindly and generously than we did before.”
“Music is meant to heal us, to bring us together, to make us happy. So that is what it will continue to do for us. We will continue to honour the ones we lost, their loved ones, my fans and all affected by this tragedy. They will be on my mind and in my heart everyday and I will think of them with everything I do for the rest of my life.”
22 people, among them children, were killed when a suicide bomer blew himself up within moments of Grande’s gig at Manchester Arena coming to an end.
She suspended her Dangerous Woman Tour, calling off two dates at London’s O2 Arena as she flew home to Florida.
Since then, a wave of musicians have paid tribute – from Take That and Celine Dion to those who played Radio 1’s Big Weekend.
