Avengers 4: Could THIS theory prove Infinity Stones will lead to EPIC X-Men crossover?

Marvel fan theories are prolific, filling up corners of the internet from Reddit to Twitter, fuelled by post-credit scenes and leaked set photos.

But this newest fan theory takes its inspiration not from anything within the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) or comic universe, but rather the very corporate world of the Disney-Fox deal.

Could the Infinity Stones lead to a crossover with X-Men?

Some fans think yes and here’s how this crossover could happen.

Within the MCU, two superheroes are already quite close to being defined as mutants: Scarlet Witch and Quicksilver.

Though the heroes are referred to as miracles, their powers were awakened by exposure to the Mind stone.

The theory follows along this line, assuming a second snap in Avengers 4 will somehow reverse the ending of Infinity War.

But that’s not all it will do.

AVENGERS 4: IS LOKI IN AVENGERS 4?

Using the combined power of the Mind, Reality, and Time stones during the second snap could awake the gene already latent in people all over the universe (like Scarlet Witch and Quicksilver) and thus create mutants.

The problem with this theory is the retconning of a whole lot of X-Men plots and characters arcs.

However, if Marvel has any plans on merging the X-Men into the MCU, a brand new creation of mutants may be the best, and least complicated, way to go about it.

The theory appeared first on Reddit, and commentators were quick to point out potential pitfalls with the theory.

One user specified the difference between the snap creating mutants versus the snap making it so mutants were always around in the new timeline post-Avengers 4.

Rather than awakening a gene lying latent within the population, the new world will exist as if mutants had always been there.

Given the highly likely use of time travel in Avengers 4, this adds a sliver of credulity to the theory.

Time travel could alleviate the need to retcon the X-Men storylines, and instead merge them with those of the MCU.

How this would impact the heroes themselves remains to be seen, but Avengers 4 is set to be the final chapter in Phase III of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

A great opener to Phase IV, along with Brie Larson as Captain Marvel becoming the new face of the Avengers, would be the introduction of X-Men into the Avengers fold.

To find out whether this theory is true, fans have to wait quite a while.
