The Marvel Cinematic Universe has been treated to a long line of Loki’s deadpan villainous humour.

However, his Avengers reign seemed to come to an irreversible end during Infinity War.

Infinity War saw Thanos casting Loki’s body to the floor, with the final words: “No resurrections, this time.”

A brand new fan theory about Loki has rekindled rumours that he might not be.

The theory also ties in with the tantalising photo leaks from the set of Avengers 4.

Loki is a notoriously a chief of illusion, using his skills to fake his own death in The Dark World.

Fans think that Loki could have used the same trick in Avengers: Infinity War.

During Loki’s death, Thanos had only acquired the Power Stone, and without the Reality Stone it is plausible Thanos would not be able to see past Loki’s illusion.

The illusion is not only visual but tangible and solid, so Thanos would have been able to toss Loki’s body aside and be none the wiser.

Can Loki come back for Avengers 4?

During Infinity War’s release, Tom Hiddleston talked openly about looking forward to exploring Loki’s character.

Not to mention photos leaked from the set of Avengers 4 filming last year apparently show Loki alive and well.

Of course, it’s always likely Loki will return in a flashback scene.

Another way for Loki to appear is using the time travel plots being bandied around.

The upcoming Ant-Man and Captain Marvel movies are expected to introduce themes about the Quantum Realm and alternate dimensions, which could lead into Avengers 4.

No matter what track Avengers 4 takes, it’s highly likely we’ll see Loki again in the future, or the past.
