Bautista plays Drax in the MCU but has made clear his issues with studio bosses at Disney after the firing of James Gunn earlier this year.

Gunn was ditched from the Guardians of the Galaxy series over a series of offensive old tweets, which he insisted do not reflect his attitudes today.

Disney refused to U-turn on his dismissal despite pressure from stars including, most prominently, Bautista – and now that Gunn has joined Suicide Squad 2, it seems he wants to jump ship.

Taking to Twitter, he shared an article announcing Gunn’s new role and wrote: “Where do I sign up!”

Of course, contractually, it is widely assumed that an actor would be unable to have simultaneous roles in films for rival studios DC and Marvel – so could Bautista be willing to jump ship/

Recently, he has threatened to quit Marvel if Gunn’s original Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 3 script was not used.

“Where I’m at right now is that if [Marvel] don’t use that script, then I’m going to ask them to release me from my contract, cut me out or recast me,” he told Shortlist.

“I’d be doing James a disservice if I didn’t.

“Nobody’s defending his tweets, but this was a smear campaign on a good man.

“I spoke to Chris Pratt the day after it happened and he’s a bit religious so he wanted time to pray and figure it out, but I was more like: f**k this.

“This is bulls***. James is one of the kindest, most decent people I’ve met.”

No news has been issued on the Guardians threequel, although it is assumed that production on it is indefinitely delayed until a new director is hired.

Until then, the stars of the trilogy will be seen in Avengers 4 under the direction of the Russo brothers. Reshoots are currently in progress in Atlanta, USA.

Gunn has not posted on Twitter since his dismissal in July.

Deadline had reported the Suicide Squad 2 news, which sees the film-maker on board to write and possibly also direct.

David Ayer, the writer of the first Suicide Squad film, shared his excitement at the news too.

“I think it’s an incredibly brave and smart move by the studio. James is the right man for the job!” he said.
