Avengers 4 to be followed by THIS movie? Marvel ‘fast-tracks’ MAJOR Phase Four superhero

Kevin Feige’s team are allegedly plotting a fast-tracked big-screen debut for Shang-Chi; which will be their first Asian superhero movie. New Asian and Asian American film-makers are said to be courted to work on the blockbuster, which – it is hoped – could achieve the same huge critical and commercial success as Black Panther.

According to Deadline, Chinese-American writer Dave Callaham, 41, has been hired to write the screenplay.

Callaham has co-written Wonder Woman 1984 for DC, which is set to hit cinemas in summer 2020.

He also worked on the story of 2014’s Godzilla, and 2009’s Tell-Tale.

No directors are known to have been approached just yet, but the wheels seem to be very definitively in motion for an exciting new chapter of Marvel storytelling.

In Marvel’s original comics, Shang-Li joins the Avengers after training in King-Fu and shunning the life of an assassin, planned for him by his sorcerer father.

On the page, he interacts with the likes of Captain America and Iron Man – although with Chris Evans and Robert Downey Jr both thought to be bowing out of those respective roles in the movies, it seems unlikely that this will happen on the big screen too.

Phase Four at Marvel will begin after the release of Avengers 4, which is out next Spring.

That film’s first trailer and official title are both due later this week, according to persistent rumours.

Other efforts from the studio that are known to be en route include Captain Marvel, due in March, and Spider-Man: Far From Home, out next summer.

Sequels for Black Panther and Doctor Strange are also thought to be on the way, along with a prequel tale for Black Widow.

And Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 3 should be along at some point, after production was halted over James Gunn’s firing as a director.

Avengers 4 is out on April 26 2019 in the UK.
