Avengers Endgame: After ‘Fat Thor’ twist, is THIS next for Chris Hemsworth’s character?

WARNING: Spoilers ahead for Avengers: Endgame.

The Marvel blockbuster saw the God of Thunder become what has been referred to as “fat Thor”.

The character’s physique transformed during the five-year time jump; in a change the directors and writers have explained is a result of the huge trauma, loss and depression he suffered.

Importantly, the creative team made a point of the character not returning to his previous body type as he reconnected with himself during the course of the film.

This, combined with the humour injected into him during Thor: Ragnarok, has given one theorist on Reddit an idea of who he can team up with next, if Hemsworth returns for more movies.

And it’s not just the Guardians of the Galaxy.

With Natalie Portman’s Jane Foster seemingly out of the picture now, and Valkyrie widely believed to be one of the MCU’s all-too-few LGBTQ+ characters, could his next love interest come from another face from his past?

A user wrote: “In the next Thor movie, since Nathalie [sic] Portman won’t do Jane Forster and since they will need a love interest for Thor, they will bring back Darcy Lewis to be the coolest, most chill gamer girlfriend Thor could have ever asked for.”

Indeed, given Thor’s new sense of humour, it’s not hard to envision him and Kat Dennings’ character having a sparky rapport.

The theorist went on: “It fits well in his post depression – who has never dated an ex’s friend to get better after a break up!

“Plus the ‘human’ Thor became is exactly in need for a woman less of a stuck up than Jane Foster.

“Maybe my brain associates Darcy Lewis too much with Max in 2 Broke Girls [who Dennings also played], but that would be a wild ride for Thor’s character development.”

The idea hasn’t gone down especially well on Reddit – its Upvote score is only 45% – but some fans have backed it.

One said: “It could be great. Bring her and Selvik to Asgardians of the Galaxy 3.

“Fish out of water stories are great. But even greater if they are secondary characters.”

Darcy Lewis was last seen in Thor: The Dark World, after previously debuting in Thor.

Whether or not Hemsworth will return to the MCU for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 3 remains to be seen, but that was certainly the door left open at the end of Endgame.

The character was seen joining the likes of Peter Quill, Mantis, Drax, Rocket, Groot and Nebula in their ship shortly before the credits rolled.

This was after he left Asgard in the sensible hands of Tessa Thompson’s Valkyrie.
