Avengers: Endgame could have been VERY different – cast revelation would change EVERYTHING

Avengers: Endgame marked the final instalment of Marvel’s Phase Three and the last of four Avengers movies after Avengers Assemble, Age of Ultron and Infinity War. Now, in a Disney+ special, Marvel Studios’ casting director Sarah Finn has revealed one decision could have changed the face of the superhero gang — literally.

In Assembling a Universe, which is available to Disney+ subscribers in the US, Canada and Netherlands as of yesterday, Finn explained how Guardians of the Galaxy star Chris Pratt could’ve ended up in a different role altogether: Captain America.

The Star-Lord actor in fact auditioned for the role of Steve Rogers — which ended up going to Chris Evans — long before that of Peter Quill.

In the featurette, Finn said the audition was what put Pratt on her radar when they later came to casting for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 1.

“James Gunn [Guardians of the Galaxy director] had been very generous about this in saying that I, to the point of annoying him, kept insisting that Chris Pratt was the guy for the part, but Chris didn’t want to play the part and refused to audition,” she said of Guardians of the Galaxy.

“I finally got him to audition and James Gunn said he didn’t want to see him and that really was a challenge,” she continued.

“I was really happy when I finally got them together and it was honestly one of those eureka moments that we talk about in casting when it absolutely feels right and you know it’s right.

“James turned to me within 10 seconds and said, ‘He’s the guy,’” she added.

The Avengers films would have been very different had Pratt got the part of Captain America and would also have meant Star-Lord would’ve gone to someone else.

The way things ended up going, Pratt’s character Star-Lord ended up fighting on team Avengers with Captain America as they united to defeat Thanos (played by Josh Brolin).

Endgame is far from being the only MCU movie available on Disney+, which boasts an abundance of content for Marvel fans.

16 of the 23 releases are on the streaming service, including all three Iron Man films, the first and second Captain Americas, both instalment of Guardians of the Galaxy, Age of Ultron, Infinity War and Black Panther.

Elsewhere, the launch of Disney+ has also unveiled a deleted scene from Endgame.
