Avengers Endgame: Did you hear THIS nod to first Iron Man movie? It's NOT the post-credits

Avengers: Endgame had so many cameos they were almost impossible to count. Fans have begun compiling lists of the franchise nods and winks, and it’s still ongoing. Though many fans have already identified the post-credits sound as a nod to Iron Man, there’s another nod you may have missed. Warning: spoilers below.

Did you hear this nod to the first Iron Man movie during Endgame?

During the third act of Avengers: Endgame, a final battle rages.

Thanos, his Black Order and Outriders are laying siege to the forces of good.

The Infinity Gauntlet is being kept out of Thanos’ hands, but barely.

All hope seems lost when past-Nebula gets her hands on it and gives it to Thanos.

Thanos is about to snap all life out of existence and delivers his new catchphrase: I am inevitable.

But Iron Man gets the better of him, having made his own gauntlet and managed to sneak the Infinity Stones out of Thanos’.

Iron Man reveals his gauntlet-clad hand and says: “And I’m Iron Man” before snapping his fingers.

The moment is a verbatim copy of Stark’s final words in his 2008 debut movie, Iron Man.

Albeit the delivery is highly different, and in Endgame’s case, the catchphrase is Stark’s last words.

In the aftermath of the battle, with the Avengers’ having won, Tony Stark sits, dying.

His most loyal friends are there to comfort him in his final moments.

Spider-Man, who had become a protege of Stark, hugs him through tears.

Then, his wife Pepper Potts (played by Gwenyth Paltrow) comforts him and promises she and their daughter Morgan will be okay.

Stark dies silently, having sacrificed himself for the greater good.

What’s more poignant is how the line came about in the 2008 movie.

Marvel boss Kevin Feige confirmed Robert Downey Jr ad-libbed the closing line.

Feige told Deadline in 2018: “If you’re changing something for no reason, that’s one thing, but if you’re changing something because you want to double-down on the spirit of who the character is?

“That’s a change we’ll make. Tony Stark not reading off the card and not sticking with the fixed story? Him just blurting out ‘I am Iron Man?’ That seems very much in keeping with who that character is.

“It just hadn’t been done in the comics before, but it was something very much in keeping with the comics character and what he could have done.”

Avengers: Endgame is now playing in cinemas.
