Avengers Endgame: Does Thanos die in Avengers Endgame? Who dies? (SPOILERS)

Avengers Endgame is the final film from Marvel directing team Anthony and Joe Russo. Fans have been clamouring for the film for over a year now after a whole 50 percent of Marvel characters were wiped out in Avengers: Infinity War. Endgame has quickly soared to the top of review boards, with a certified fresh Rotten Tomatoes score and a strong score of 78 on Metacritic. The film contains some heartbreaking and some awe-inspiring moments, most of which are included below, so proceed with caution if you are yet to see it.

Does Thanos die in Endgame?

Avengers: Infinity war left off with Thanos rendering most of the Marvel Cinematic Universe to a pile of dust.

The small troupe of Avengers left over then journey to Thanos’ planet to bring back their fallen comrades.

Thor kills Thanos on the spot, but this isn’t the last time we see the Mad Titan.

The remaining Avengers are forced to find the Infinity Stones in different locations of the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s past, in order to bring back their fallen teammates.

As the heroes split up to find the stones, Hawkeye and Black Widow visit the planet Vormir for the soul stone.

People who have seen Infinity War know this particular stone comes only to those who have made a great sacrifice.

Black Widow sacrifices herself – marking the film’s first major death – and Hawkeye is able to bring the soul stone back to Earth.

Once the Avengers return to their own timeline, a younger Thanos follows.

The resulting epic final battle sees Tony Stark scrambling with the demigod to prevent him extinguishing half the universe once again.

Thankfully Stark is able to use the stones himself, and he destroys Thanos’ army.

The younger Thanos is destroyed with them, evaporating into dust as the heroes did in Infinity War.

However, using each of the stones comes at a terrible price, as Tony Stark is unable to bear the power exerted by each gem working at once.

He sadly dies at the scene, surrounded by Spider-Man, Captain America, Pepper Potts and War Machine.

His death marks the third and final major loss in Avengers: Endgame.
