Avengers Endgame: Latest box office projection is ENORMOUS as new estimates are revealed

Unsurprisingly given the huge levels of hype around the Marvel blockbuster, Avengers; Endgame is tracking towards a jaw-dropping opening weekend gross. And after tickets went on pre-sale earlier this week and broke records in the process, all signs point to it being the year’s biggest movie, assuming the likes of Toy Story 4 and Star Wars 9 can’t catch it. Just how big will it open?

In the US, latest figures point to a bow of anywhere between $200 and $250 million.

That would actually put it slightly lower than Avengers: Infinity War, which opened to $257.6 million in 2018 – the biggest North American launch of all time.

But it’s worth noting that Infinity War was projected to land between $185 and $225 million – so if Endgame similarly exceeds expectations, it could break its predecessor’s record.

In any case, its global bow is expected to cause a big wave.

Analysts have said, according to The Hollywood Reporter, that it could hit somewhere between $750-800 million.

That’s thanks in part to the fact that this one lands on the same day in China as it does in most other major territories.

It’s an interesting footnote, though, that the sheer length of the movie could actually affect how many times it can physically be screened in cinemas.

As THR highlights, its runtime of 3 hours and 58 seconds – about half an hour longer than Infinity War – could mean one fewer showing a day on any given screen.

While bigger multiplexes can simply allocate more screens to it, smaller cinemas may find themselves unable to schedule it as often as they did Infinity War.

Still, the film will be an undisputed smash hit, regardless of its actual quality.

It’s expected to close out the current phase of Marvel storytelling, with multiple stars – including Chris Evans – widely thought to be bowing out somehow.

Avengers: Endgame is out on April 25 in the UK.
