Avengers Endgame: Spider-Man Far From Home teases MULTIVERSE – what does it mean?

Spider-Man Far From Home dropped its second trailer ahead of its July debut. The sequel sees Peter Parker and his friends go to Europe for the summer. The trailer also gave us a glimpse at the future of the MCU. Warning: there are spoilers for Avengers: Endgame below.

Is there a multiverse in the Marvel Cinematic Universe?

The question was posed by fans way back when fan theories began circulating in the wake of Avengers: Infinity War.

But now it seems those theories have been proven true.

In the trailer for Spider-Man Far From Home, Nick Fury introduces a character named Quentin Beck.

Beck is played by Jake Gyllenhaal, who is in Europe to help Fury defeat the Elementals.

The Elementals are wreaking havoc on historic sites throughout Europe.

Fury tells Peter that Beck is from ‘Earth, but not our Earth’ and explains the snap ‘tore a hole in our dimension’.

Peter Parker excitedly responds: ‘you’re saying there’s a multiverse?’

Fury doesn’t respond, but the implication certainly seems there is, especially given how confusing the time travel effects were for Marvel in Avengers: Endgame.

The multiverse theory holds water also with the upcoming Disney+ shows.

These include a series for Loki, as well as one for Vision and Wanda.

A multiverse opens up a world of possibilities for the future of the MCU.

Spider-Man Far From Home is the final movie in the MCU Phase Three.

How Phase Four will be impacted by the multiverse remains to be seen.

Sony’s award-winning animated movie Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse already teased the existence of a multiverse.

The likelihood this means the MCU will bring back fallen heroes is slim.

Fans are particularly hoping a young Captain America will cameo in his alternate timeline, which seems more likely given the multiverse theory

But whether Chris Evans agrees to a cameo or not remains to be seen.
