Avengers Endgame: Taylor Swift addresses surprise Thanos rumour – ‘I would have loved it’

The Marvel movie came out last month and is well on its way to becoming the highest-grossing release of all time.

Swift may have dabbled in films before – and in fact she’ll be in the new version of Cats – but she wasn’t part of Avengers: Endgame’s enormous cast.

Still, there was a rumour at one point that she would be; when she was teasing fans with the countdown to the release of her new single, ME!.

That track came out on April 26 – the same as Endgame’s US release date – and before it was confirmed that she was announcing new music, some were wondering if she was going to be part of the fight against Thanos.

Swift told Ellen DeGeneres: “Well, there were some fans that thought I had something to do with Avengers: Endgame.

“Which, I would have loved to have been asked, but I wasn’t asked to be in it at all.”

She added: “Because we had the single coming out the same day and I have that song called End Game and so [fans] were like, ‘Oh my god, she’s gonna defeat Thanos.’

“I let everyone down again.”

One person who seriously was cut from Endgame was Katherine Langford, the star of 13 Reasons Why and Love Simon.

It has since been revealed that she played an older version of Tony Stark’s daughter Morgan, who would have appeared at the very end of the movie.

Directors Joe and Anthony Russo told the Happy Sad Confused podcast: “There was an idea that we had that Tony was going to go into the metaphysical waystation that Thanos goes into when he snapped his fingers [at the end of Infinity War].

“There was going to be a future version of [Tony’s] daughter in that way-station.

“We showed it to a test audience and it was really confusing for them.”

They continued: “What we realised about it was that we didn’t feel an emotional association with the adult version of his daughter.

“It wasn’t resonating with us on an emotional level, which is why we moved away from it.

“The intention was that his future daughter forgave him and gave him peace to go.”

The next Marvel film set for release is Spider-Man: Far From Home, due July.

Kevin Feige is expected to reveal the MCU slate going forward after that.

Swift, meanwhile, is releasing her new album later in 2019.
