Avengers Endgame: Tom Holland gives his VERDICT on Spider-Man’s future with Sony

Last month, Marvel fans were shocked to hear that Disney and Sony had failed to agree on a new deal for Spider-Man’s future in the MCU. The Web-Slinger entered the franchise in 2016’s Captain America: Civil War, also appearing as Avengers Infinity War and Avengers Endgame, while Sony made two Spider-Man solo movies in the universe too. The two studios had hoped to reach an agreement on their continuing partnership, however, a decision couldn’t be made on how much more Disney would make from each film the Sony-owned superhero starred in. Nevertheless, Tom Holland himself has been positive about Spider-Man’s future with Sony.

The 23-year-old star told GQ: “I’m not shy about expressing how incredible the last five years have been with Marvel. 

“I’ve truly had the time of my life, and in so many respects, they have made my dreams come true as an actor. 

“Sony has also been really good to me, and the global success of Spider-Man: Far From Home is a real testament to their support, skill, and commitment. 

“The legacy and future of Spidey rests in Sony’s safe hands. I really am nothing but grateful, and I’ve made friends for life along the way.”

A few weeks ago both Holland and Marvel Studios boss Kevin Feige appeared to confirm Spider-Man’s departure from the MCU.

Speaking with Entertainment Weekly, Holland said: “Basically, we’ve made five great movies.

“It’s been five amazing years. I’ve had the time of my life. Who knows what the future holds? But all I know is that I’m going to continue playing Spider-Man and having the time of my life.”

“It’s going to be so fun, however, we choose to do it. The future for Spider-Man will be different, but it will be equally as awesome and amazing, and we’ll find new ways to make it even cooler.”

Meanwhile, Feige added: “I’m feeling [good] about Spider-Man gratitude and joy.

“We got to make five films within the MCU with Spider-Man: two standalone films and three with the Avengers.”

“It was a dream that I never thought would happen. It was never meant to last forever.

“We knew there was a finite amount of time that we’d be able to do this, and we told the story we wanted to tell, and I’ll always be thankful for that.”
