Avengers Endgame: Trailer’s original codename could be a BIG Captain America plot hint

The trailer landed on Friday and received over 280 million plays in 24 hours – a new record. In addition to a first official look at several characters since Thanos’s Snap in Infinity War, it also gave away the film’s title – with Endgame proving to win out over the also-rumoured Annihilation and Gauntlet. But it seems it was actually called something totally different when being prepared.

The trailer experts at TrailerTrack claimed that it was initially codenamed Capstone.

The definition is, literally, “a stone fixed on top of something, typically a wall”.

But according to Merriam-Webster, it’s also “the high point: crowning achievement”.

Or, as TrailerTrack said, “the best and final thing that somebody achieves, thought of as making their career or life complete”.

Interesting use of the word “final” there, given how this film is expected to end for several Marvel favourites.

One of the characters widely speculated to be leaving the MCU in the next film is Chris Evans’ Steve Rogers – aka Captain America.

Which does, of course, make the use of “Capstone” all the more intriguing – and it’s sparked an interesting discussion among Marvel Studios enthusiasts on Reddit.

It’s all pure speculation at this point, of course – but such theorising is all part of the fun at this early stage, with a little longer to go before we actually know anything more concrete.

Yesterday it was also claimed that Avengers: Infinity War contains more movie mistakes than any other blockbuster released in 2018.

Given that it was seen by a huge number of people, it’s more likely that – rather than having the most mistakes – it simply has the most mistakes that people actually picked up on, given that they’re all so minor.

But it’s an incredibly exciting time for the studio, with Captain America and Spider-Man: Far From Home also due in 2019.

Avengers: Endgame is out on April 26.
