Avengers Endgame: Truth behind THAT Captain Marvel end credits scene

The Oscar-winner played Carol Danvers in the Captain Marvel solo movie, before reprising her in the all-star Avengers: Endgame.

But the latter was actually shot before the former – and, at the time, Larson had little idea how the two would link.

And when it came to shooting the end credits scene for Captain Marvel, the experience was not as slick as it looked on the screen – with Larson totally oblivious to what was happening.

“There’s a tag in Captain Marvel,” she recalled on Jimmy Fallon’s chatshow this week.

“It’s all the Avengers and it whip-pans to me, and I go, ‘where’s Fury?’

“I didn’t know that was the tag for Captain Marvel. I didn’t know that was what we were shooting.”

Part of the mystery was the fact that Larson shot her line separately – not with Scarlett Johansson et al, which is how it looks in the finished product.

“There was nobody else there, I was by myself on a green screen,” Larson continued.

“And I walked in, they were like, ‘real quick, we’re gonna whip-pan to over to you and you’re gonna go, ‘where’s Fury?’’

“And I was like, ‘cool, cool, got it, got it, got it’.

“They whip-panned over to me, and I was like, ‘wait… but where is he actually? Like, is he in the room? What room am I in? Is he in the other room? Or is it another universe…?’

“They were like, ‘he’s very… gone’. And I was like, ‘I think this means that he’s dead’.

“Then afterwards, they were like, ‘OK great, after you say that could you look to the other people in the room?’ And I was like, ‘OK – who else is in the room?’ And they were like, ‘five people’.

“So they put some tape marks up and then I went, ‘where’s Fury?’ and then just kind of [looks around].

“And then I had the pleasure at the Captain Marvel premiere of seeing that scene and being like, ‘Ohhhh! That’s what that was!’”

It’s not a massive spoiler to reveal that the sequence is not in the finished product of Avengers: Endgame, but Carol Danvers does pop up elsewhere.

And Avengers: Endgame doesn’t have any credits scenes of its own – but there might just be a very subtle treat for fans who wait until the end.
