Avengers Endgame: What are Infinity Stones? Brie Larsson & Scarlett Johansson spark FRENZY

During Avengers: Infinity War, Thanos scoured the universe for the Infinity Stones. When he finally had them all in his possession, he used the Infinity Gauntlet to snap half of life out of existence. Avengers: Endgame, as the trailers have shown us, will see the fallen Avengers try to undo the snap.

Why did Brie Larsson and Scarlett Johansson’s jewellery spark a frenzy amongst fans?

The pair, who play Captain Marvel and Black Widow respectively, donned rings and a bracelet in the colours of the Infinity Stones.

Larson’s jewellery gauntlet was created by Irene Neuwirth Jewelry, and she also wore a custom Thanos-inspired Celine wrap dress.

The Captain Marvel actress posted the look on Instagram, captioning the picture “Snapped” in a clear Avengers call out.

Sonia Boyajian designed Johansson’s gauntlet inspired jewellery.

Boyajian wrote on Instagram: “It was certainly the craziest commission, but up for the challenge, this was my version of the glove of Thanos.”

What are Infinity Stones?

Casual Marvel fans may not understand just why Larson and Johansson’s jewellery choices were so exciting.

In the beginning of Infinity War, Wong said: “From the dawn of the universe, there was nothing. Then… boom.

“The Big Bang sent six elemental crystals, hurtling across the virgin universe.

“These Infinity Stones each control an essential aspect of existence.”

Whoever holds stone has the ability to manipulate whatever aspect of existence the stone represents.

But as we know, being able to wield them requires enormous power.

This is why Thanos had the Gauntlet forged in the first place.

The six Infinity Stones are Space Stone (blue), Mind Stone (yellow), Reality Stone (red), Power Stone (purple), Time Stone (green), and Soul Stone (orange).

For Larson and Johansson to casually don them at the premiere is both a nod to fans and to the strength of their characters.

Some fans speculated the jewellery decision hints that together Black Widow and Captain Marvel will be the ones to defeat Thanos.

Whether this is true or not remains to be seen when Avengers: Endgame debuts in UK cinemas.
