Avengers Infinity War: Is Infinity War the longest Marvel movie ever?

Marvel Studios have been ambitious in making Avengers Infinity War, one of the most expensive movies ever made. 

Fans have flocked to their local cinema to catch the latest action, bringing in more than $1.3 billion dollars in the last two weeks. 

Earth’s Mightiest Heroes must face their gravest threat yet as they defend the universe from Thanos’ destructive Infinity Gauntlet, and fans can’t get enough of its brutal, cliff-hanger ending. 

The latest episode in the Marvel franchise features a bloated cast list and a long runtime to squeeze in all the action.

Across 10 years and 19 blockbuster movies, Marvel has collected a significant cast list of A-list actors and actresses. 

Some of the most successful films in the last 10 years have been from Marvel Studios, raking in more than $16 billion in worldwide ticket sales.

Avengers Infinity War is one giant team-up movie, bringing in all the most popular characters together for one explosive movie.

The cast list is incredibly long, featuring a whole host of academy award nominated/winning actors and actresses as the world’s favourite heroes.

Returning characters: Iron Man, Captain America, SpiderMan, Black Panther and Star-Lord all stand in the way of Thanos, as he attempts to wipe out half the universe from existence. 

What was the Avengers Infinity War budget? 

Early rumours suggested that Infinity War’s budget had blown past $1 billion, a claim refuted by co-directors Joe and Anthony Russo. 

In an Interview with Sway Universe, Joe Russo said: “[We] shot for a year straight, from January to January, with about two weeks in-between. It would sometimes cost $350, $400, $450,000 a day just to keep the production running.” 

The resulting daily costs pushed the budget up to a rumoured $350 million, making it the second most expensive film ever made behind Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides (2011).

Anthony Russo joked that much of the budget went to Robert Downey Jr, who is rumoured to have earned $200 million in his role as Tony Stark. 

How long is Infinity War?  

The official runtime for Avengers Infinity War is 149 minutes (not including credits or post-credits scene which rounds the runtime up to 2h 40 mins).

This makes Infinite War the longest Marvel movie by a long way, beating out Captain America: Civil Wart 13 minutes. 

It appears that the more heroes on screen make for not only a longer run-time, but also a successful movie, with all four Avengers team-up movies taking the top spots for length and popularity. 

The two shortest films, tying at 1h 52m are The Incredible Hulk (2008) and Thor: The Dark World (2013), but the two most derided Marvel movies in the MCU. 

How much has Infinity War made? 

According to BoxOfficeMojo.com, Avengers Infinity War has grossed $1.3 billion worldwide, becoming the fastest film to ever break $1 billion. 

The film grossed $650 million in its opening record, breaking the record for the highest-grossing opening weekend. 

Put into perspective, rival comic/movie universe juggernaut DC’s Justice League (2017) movie grossed $650 in its entire cinema run.

Infinity War is yet to break the MCU record that belongs to The Avengers (2012) with $1.5 billion. 

In total, the MCU has grossed more than $16 billion worldwide, with more than $6 billion coming domestically in the US and Canada.
