Avengers Infinity War: Is Valkyrie ALIVE? Did any Asgardians survive? Directors EXPLAIN

The poor Asgardians have had a very rough ride receently. Quite literally.

After the destruction of Asgard at the end of Thor Ragnarok the last remants of Thor’s people were rescued only for Thanos’s huge warship to appear in the movie’s end credits.

The Infinity War trailers showed more dead Asgardian bodies on the ship and floating in space before the movie revealed the full horror of what happened.

Did any survive at all and where is the missing Valkyrie?

The Russos just explained exactly what happened to her.

WARNING MAJOR SPOILERS

The early scenes showed Thanos and the Black Order board the Asgardian vessel and carry out ther customary cull of half all lives. Then Loki and Heidall were killed but not before the Bifrost opened and blew a hole in the ship.

When the Guardians arrive they find a destroyed ship and bodies floating in space – including Thor. Being a god he survives the exposure but everyone else is clearly dead.

So how did anyone at all survive? 

Joe Russo explains all.

At a recent fan event he was asked what happened and fans quickly spread the good news.

One tweeted in excited upper case: “I WAS RIGHT Y’ALL. JOE RUSSO CONFIRMED VALKYRIE AND KORG AND HALF THE ASGARDIANS ESCAPED AND ARE SAFE!”

Another reconfirmed the news: “Just in! Valkyrie lives. According to director Joe Russo, she was taken on a rescue ship along with some other Asgardians.”

But how?

The Asgardian vessel was the huge ship stolen by Thor and Loki from the Grandmaster.

Overexcited fans reporetd about “rescue ships” but Joe Russo actually clarified what happened as Thanos and his minions were boarding: “Prior to the start of that scene, escape ships were deployed for Asgardians, including Valkyrie.”

These would have been the smaller vessels in the hold.

When he was asked in another interview what happened to fan favourites Korg and Miek, Russo only cryptically replied “Spoilers.”

However it is safe to assume the escaped along with Valkyrie.

Tessa Thompson herself has already been seen filming Avengers 4 so her return is absolutely assured.

As for the actress herself, when asked to explain her absence from thos devasting scenes, she joked that Valkyre was “at the bar.”
