It was bad enough the first time around.

Tom Holland’s heartbreaking performance made the death of Spidey one of the most powerful scenes in Marvel Cinematic history. Or any film history, for that matter.

And that was before we knew the gut-wrenching truth behind what was going on.

Infinity War directors Joe and Anthony Russo have been revealing new information about the blockbuster on the audio commentary for the home entertainment release which lucky US fans can already enjoy.

If you can bear it, you can also watch his tearful death scene again in the clip below.

The scene is almost unbearable, not just because it is so well done.

Looking absolutely terrified and running towards Tony Stark, Spidey said: “Mr Stark, I don’t feel good”, then “I don’t know what’s happening. I don’t want to go. Please, please, I don’t want to go”.

Then a last whispered “I’m sorry” and he was gone.

Joe Russo revealed that the improvised scene was so much longer than any other Avengers death scene for two reasons.

Russo described the original short version: “If I remember correctly, right, it was ‘I don’t feel so good’ — Tony looked at him, he said, ‘I’m sorry,’ and disappeared.”

The scene became much longer for pure emotional cinematic impact Thanks to Robert Downey’s Jr’s encouragement, but also because Spidey was the only character to fight what was happening.

Russo added: “At the end of the day, he (Robert Downey Jr) kept driving to put more and more emotion into it. And just went up to Tom (Holland) and said, ‘You don’t wanna go. You’re a child. And you’re using your strength as Spider-Man to fight this.’ And then that was the performance that came out.”

Peter Parker’s Spidey senses told him something was coming. His innate strength also meant he was able to last a little bit longer than even some of the most powerful figures in the universe.

Everyone else lasted mere seconds. Spidey hung on for half a minute. It may not seem much, but against the power of the full Infinity Gauntlet, that is incredible.

He is no longer a goofy teenager. It sets Spider-Man up to be one of the most formidable heroes in the entire Marvel Phase 4.

Now we just have to figure out how they will bring him back…
