Avengers Infinity War star speaks out on all-female Marvel movie: ‘There's hunger for it’

The actress, who played Okoye in Black Panther and the new all-star blockbuster, was asked by Ellen DeGeneres if there is any truth to the speculation.

“I keep hearing this rumour also,” she said. “I just got asked that a couple of days ago.

“I think it is [just] a rumour but it’s a cool thing that there’s a hunger for this type of thing.

“And I know that the awesome Brie Larson is filming Captain Marvel as we speak, and so these things are starting to happen.”

She added: “I think it’s really exciting, because it’s showing that yeah, of course it’s time we started seeing the perspective of a story coming exclusively from women.

“I mean magic happens when women do their thing, you know what I’m saying?”

Marvel have certainly made a visible effort to increase female prominence in its superhero movies in recent years, though they are still outnumbered quite heavily by the men.

Notable fixtures include Black Widow (Scarlett Johansson), Scarlet Witch (Elizabeth Olsen), Mantis (Pom Klementieff), Nebula (Karen Gillan) and Gamora (Zoe Saldana).

For now, Avengers: Infinity War is set to conquer the box office this weekend as it opens on a wave of incredible hype.

Not even its stars knew the full story of what happens until they attended the Los Angeles premiere this week, and Chadwick Boseman (Black Panther) told Jimmy Kimmel that he was stunned.

Asked if the cast were surprised by anything they saw on-screen, he said: “Yes, absolutely. But I can’t tell you what!

“I literally yelled out, ‘no they didn’t!’ in the middle.

“I got embarrassed. I yelled it out like a true fan.

“I didn’t know a certain thing was going to happen!”

Appearing alongside Josh Brolin, Sebastian Stan, Karen Gillan and Chris Hemsworth, the actors also carefully urged viewers to stay back and watch the mid-credits scenes.
