Avengers Infinity War: Will there be a Guardians of the Galaxy 3?

In Avengers: Infinity War, our favourite heroes combined forces to tackle the evil Titan that is Thanos, trying to prevent him from wiping half of the universe from existence.

Characters from Black Panther, Dr. Strange, the Avengers, Spiderman and Guardians of the Galaxy became teams spread through space battling the mighty Titan.

In the wake of Avengers: Infinity War, the Guardians team has been massively altered, so what can we expect for the future?

Will there be a Guardians of the Galaxy 3?

Writer/ Director James Gunn has announced the Guardians will be returning in Guardians of the Galaxy Volume 3.

However, the arc of the characters remains a mystery as in Avengers: Infinity War, the team was all but decimated.

Captured by her adopted father Thanos, Gamora faced death as she was thrown from a cliff in order for the Titan to receive one of the Infinity Stones, the Soul Stone.

Star-Lord, Gamora, Drax, Mantis and Groot all also perished when Thanos claimed all six Infinity Stones and clicked his fingers – wiping half of all life from existence.

Gunn has stated that Volume 3 will serve as the “epic conclusion” to the Guardians of the Galaxy films, bringing to an end the current “iteration” of the team.

Who will star in Vol. 3 revolves around how the untitled Avengers 4 resolves itself.

Whilst there is a high possibility Thanos’ finger snap can be reversed, Gamora died after falling from a cliff, so she may not return.

However, Thanos’ vision of her at the end of Avengers: Infinity War as the younger Gamora could imply she is trapped inside of the Soul Stone, paving the way for an epic comeback and potential for her to be included in Vol. 3.

There is also the much awaited “horrible” origin story of Rocket the Raccoon that fans have been promised somewhere in the future.

Gunn has promised both endings and beginnings in the final instalment of his imagining of the Guardians, which will pave the way for the future of the MCU.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 is confirmed for release in 2020.
