Bohemian Rhapsody 2: Freddie Mercury SEQUEL update from Queen's Brian May 'We've talked'
Last year the Freddie Mercury biopic stormed the box office, taking over $900 million worldwide. Bohemian Rhapsody won more Oscars than any movie at the 2019 Oscars, despite mixed reviews from the critics. But if anything the movie’s biggest success is creating a new generation of Queen fans around the world.
Bohemian Rhapsody ended in 1985 with Queen’s iconic Live Aid performance and Freddie revealing to the band that he was dying from AIDS.
The singer went on to record three more Queen albums before he died in 1991.
So there certainly is room for a sequel focused on Freddie’s final years.
Now Queen guitarist Brian May, who served as a consultant on Bohemian Rhapsody with drummer Roger Taylor, has given an update on the possibility of a sequel.

Bohemian Rhapsody 2: Freddie Mercury SEQUEL update from Queen’s Brian May ‘We’ve talked’
Bohemian Rhapsody made over $900 million worldwide
Speaking with Rolling Stone, the 72-year-old said: “Don’t think we didn’t think about it.
“We’ve talked. Basically we think not, at the moment.
“Things could change, I suppose, but I think it would be difficult.”
May admitted he felt a focus on Freddie’s final years wouldn’t be very “uplifting” considering his friend was dying.
Bohemian Rhapsody 2 could be set between 1985 and 1991
He went on to say how although it’s not impossible due to there being a great story there, it’s not the story they want to tell right now.
May added: “There’s a million things in our career which you couldn’t show in a movie since the movie had to be so simplified to make it watchable.
“But we don’t really think there’s another movie there.”
“That’s the long and the short of it.”

If anything the Queen guitarist feels they should look elsewhere.
He said: “There are other ideas that we had, but I don’t think a sequel will happen. But we have looked at it pretty seriously.”
The Queen legend sounds pretty adamant Bohemian Rhapsody 2 won’t happen.
But he did mention that it wasn’t impossible and that things could indeed change.
Certainly, with the pandemic going on around the world, making a particularly sad film now may not be the right time as May says.
In a few years time, maybe something will come together with Rami Malek reprising Freddie.
Of course, there’s also the possibility of a prequel looking at the singer’s childhood.
After all, it was barely touched on in Bohemian Rhapsody.
