Bohemian Rhapsody ending: Movie could be MOST HEARTBREAKING ending ever
Bohemian Rhapsody was released in 2018 and follows the life of Queen frontman Freddie Mercury. The story starts at the moment he joined the band in 1970 and ends with the band’s Live Aid performance at Wembley Stadium in 1985. The film has recieved some mixed reviews but swept up a hole host of awards at the Golden Globes on January 6.
During his winner’s speech at the Golden Globes in Los Angeles on Sunday, Rami Malek was full of praise for the band’s lead singer.
Accepting the award, he said: “Thank you to Freddie Mercury for giving me the joy of my lifetime.
“I love you, you beautiful man. This is for – and because of – you, gorgeous.”
Bohemian Rhapsody ends where it begins, with the Live Aid performance at Wembley on July 13, 1985 – but why was the ending so heartbreaking?
Why is the film’s ending so heartbreaking?
The final part of the film involved an exact replica of Wembley Stadium being built, to recreate Queen’s performance at Live Aid on July 13, 1985.
Malek gives a stunning performance by copying Freddie’s mannerisms and stage presence, beat for beat.
The end of the film tugs at the heartstrings as the final scenes explore the struggles Freddie faced behind the scenes.
Freddie discovered he was lied to by his manager Paul Prenter (played by Allen Leech) after breaking up the band and going solo.
He has to beg for their forgiveness, before revealing the heartbreaking news he has contracted AIDS.
Freddie continues to get his life in order before taking to the stage at Wembley.
He rekindles his relationship with Jim Hutton (played by Aaron McCusker), who he stayed with for the rest of his life.
Freddie also takes Jim to meet his estranged parents and makes up with them too.
They then watch their son perform on the television for the first time.
Though the movie stops in 1985, there are text cards which explains Mercury’s final years up to his death in 1991.
Mercury didn’t publicly confirm his diagnosis until November 23, 1991, with an official statement the day before his death.
The statement read: “Following the enormous conjecture in the press over the last two weeks, I wish to confirm that I have been tested HIV-positive and have AIDS.
“I felt it correct to keep this information private to date in order to protect the privacy of those around me.
“However, the time has now come for my friends and fans around the world to know the truth and I hope that everyone will join with me, my doctors and all those worldwide in the fight against this terrible disease.”
Bohemian Rhapsody is out in cinemas now.
