Bohemian Rhapsody: Freddie Mercury sister shares 'EMOTIONAL' memories of Queen singer

Freddie remained close to his family throughout his life. Younger sister Kashmira says watching the movie was “emotional” but she has her own memories to keep her brother alive, especially fun nights hanging out at home. It should come as no surprise the way the started every evening together. The family may have had a simple upbringing in Feltham, West London, but Freddie soon developed a taste for the finer things in life when Queen hit the big time – and he was famous for sharing his good fortune with everyone around him.

Kashmira said: “We always made the best of our time together.

“Freddie always classed London as his home, despite having properties in other parts of the world. Whenever I visited his home here, he had his own chef prepare wonderful meals, then on occasion, he would like to treat me to one of his favourite Indian restaurants. But we always had champagne to begin the evening.”

Freddie left that London mansion, One Garden Lodge in Kensington, to his “love of my life” Mary Austin but he also looked after his family, leaving them 50% of his share of Queen’s future earnings.

Kashmira rarely speaks to the press, but is currently selling her opulent London apartment on Hyde Park gardens for £4.75million. A huge framed photograph of Freddie hangs in pride of place in the lounge.

The Queen icon’s sister told The Times: “I especially chose this photograph, and had it enlarged, for the apartment. Whichever angle you look at him from, his eyes follow you. This is the image I have of him when we all lived together in the family home.”

Although she has so many personal memories of her own, she says she was happy that the film Bohemian Rhapsody was made and was so respectful to her brother.

Kashmira said: “I was happy to find out they were going to make the movie. And, although it was very emotional for me, I thought it was tastefully done.”

The film has made almost $900million (£690million) worldwide, meaning Kashmira’s share of the band’s proceeds from the Oscar-winning biopic could be as much as £20million.

Even after all these years, Freddie is still looking after those he loved most.
