Bohemian Rhapsody: Freddie Mercury star Rami Malek ODDS ON for Best Actor Oscar and BAFTA

Last Sunday evening Rami Malek was the shock winner of the Best Drama Actor Golden Globe. A Star Is Born’s Bradley Cooper was the favourite for the prize, but the Freddie Mercury star beat him to it. Now Malek is odds on for the Best Actor Oscar and BAFTA, with identical odds of 4-7 with Coral. A spokesman for the bookies said: “Bohemian Rhapsody star Rami Malek is in line to win the Best Actor at the BAFTA Film Awards next month and we make him odds on to add the award to the Golden Globe he won recently.”

They added: “If our odds are right it’s going to be a few months to remember for the 37-year-old as he is also odds on to scoop the Oscar for Best Actor.”

Malek’s main contender, however, is Christian Bale who gained 40 pounds to play Dick Cheney in Vice.

The Oscar winner and former Batman picked up the Best Comedy/Musical Actor award at the Golden Globes himself.

Bale is currently at 7-4 for the BAFTA and 3/1 for the Best Actor Oscar, when he will compete in the same category as Malek for the first time.

Both Queen guitarist and drummer Brian May and Roger Taylor were in attendance to support Malek and Bohemian Rhapsody.

Malek said: “And of course [thanks] to Queen. To you Brian May and you Roger Taylor for ensuring that authenticity and inclusivity exists in the music and in the world and in all of us.

“I love you, you beautiful man. This is for and because of you gorgeous.”

The 71st British Academy Film Awards take place on February 10 and the 91st Academy Awards will follow on February 24.
