Bohemian Rhapsody: Mary Austin star Lucy Boynton drops SURPRISING bombshell on Freddie ex

It’s no secret that Austin – who was a lover and, later, very close friend of Freddie Mercury – remains an incredibly private person. She has not publicly commented on Bohemian Rhapsody or spoken out in the media at all for several years. But Boynton has revealed that – despite her exquisite performance in the film – she still, to this day, has never met the woman she played on screen; not even behind closed doors.

Speaking in an interview with Kinowetter, she said: “I didn’t get to meet her, unfortunately.

“Brian May was my main source – he actually introduced Mary and Freddie.

“So it was really beautiful to hear from him how they were as individuals coming together and how they impacted each-other.”

She also said: “I don’t think many people know much about Mary and I think that would please her to hear.

“I think she’s a very private life.”

“His [Freddie’s] performances were so public. And to counter that, he tried to keep his home life and private life as far from the all-seeing eyes as he could afford to.

“And I think Mary was that home – as he was for her – and they were the eye of the storm that was the Queen world!”

Bohemian Rhapsody was an enormous success worldwide, and has recently continued its dominance on the UK Film Chart following its DVD and Blu-ray release.

According to official figures, in the UK alone the film has sold 853,000 across all platforms since its release just weeks ago.

That just edges the phenomenon that is The Greatest Showman – which shifted 845,500 copies in the same amount of time.

Bohemian Rhapsody is now rumoured to be under consideration for a sequel, although this is not confirmed.
