Bohemian Rhapsody: Rami Malek on what Freddie Mercury would REALLY think of movie glory

“I think he’d be tickled by it!” he told E! News.

“He was all about living his life and having the best time doing it, moment to moment.

“This would give him a big smile on his face. He’d probably want to go out and have a really good time afterwards.”

Malek was also asked whether or not he is still in touch with the surviving members of Queen, who were heavily involved in the making of the movie.

“We talk often,” he said. “We’ve become very close and it’s been one of the greatest events of my life, I guess.

“Just to do the film and then have them involved in my life and be involved in theirs, to be accepted by them…

“To be here tonight is the cherry on top of all of it.”

Malek is now the bookies’ favourite to win Best Actor at the Oscars next month.

Bradley Cooper had previously been the frontrunner, but he’s now been leapfrogged by Malek and Christian Bale, who are on 4/7 and 11/4 respectively with bet365.

Bohemian Rhapsody’s phenomenal success has been particularly remarkable given the lukewarm reviews it received from critics.

It has also been criticised for omitting several aspects of Mercury’s life, including much of his homosexuality.

Bohemian Rhapsody is still showing at some cinemas. It’s out on DVD and Blu-Ray on March 4.
