Bohemian Rhapsody: WATCH Rami Malek's Golden Globes 2019 speech thanking Freddie Mercury
It was one of the Golden Globes’ biggest surprises. Rami Malek beat favourite Bradley Cooper to the Best Drama Actor gong for his highly-praised performance as Freddie Mercury in Bohemian Rhapsody. Dressed in white tie, the 37-year-old American-born son of Egyptian parents gave a stunning piece of seemingly off-the-cuff rhetoric when accepting his prize. After telling the audience how honoured he was to win and thanking various people, Malek went on to praise Queen and especially Freddie Mercury.
Both Queen guitarist and drummer Brian May and Roger Taylor were in attendance to support Malek and Bohemian Rhapsody.
Malek said: “And of course [thanks] to Queen.
“To you Brian May and you Roger Taylor for ensuring that authenticity and inclusivity exists in the music and in the world and in all of us.
“Thank you to Freddie Mercury for giving me the joy of a life time.”
Malek added: “I love you, you beautiful man. This is for and because of you gorgeous.”
Having won the Best Drama Actor gong at the globes, Malek will now be the favourite for the Oscar, alongside Best Musical or Comedy Actor winner Christian Bale.
The former Batman played former US Vice President Dick Cheney in Vice.
